Oliver has become known in Sydney and the Southern Highlands for bespoke furniture and leather goods. His experience with numerous residential and commercial clients, has equipped him with a knowledge base to help guide clients through a design process which leads to their dream piece.
*Oliver is the owner and operator of Oliver Throsby. Furniture maker in the Southern Highlands of NSW. He is a direct descendant of Dr Charles Throsby, known throughout the region, through Throsby Park. Oliver’s workshop is situated on the original land grant, given to Dr Throsby by Governor Lachlan Macquarie.
Creativity runs rich in Oliver’s family. He was taught leather craft by his Grandmother and woodwork by his Father so he was pre destined to work with his hands as a maker with both wood and leather as his core mediums. With over a decade of commercial furniture production, Oliver’s own style is definitive. At the center of his design process, is a desire for his pieces to be used and loved. Using hand tools coupled with modern tools, Oliver creates furniture which is both beautiful and current, while being made to last generations, going against the grain of disposable modern culture.
Oliver is inspired to find unique pieces of timber and leather and his stunning discoveries strongly influence his creative process. An interest in sustainability has also heavily influenced Oliver’s interior pieces, which you can see through his use of reclaimed timbers and use of native species - the wood always tells a story.
His Southern Highlands workshop prioritises non toxic finishes and maintains a low impact to the environment - he passionately believes in leaving the world in a better state than which you found it.
